Development of Regional Innovative Potential by the Defense Industry Forces

Abstract

Introduction, Purpose. To date, the development of regions based on innovation is the most important factor of their competitiveness. The ability of the region to change domestic policies and produce high-tech products forms the region’s innovative potential. The enterprises of the defense industry complex (DIC) and state institutions associated with them give the greatest response at the state and industrial level with respect to the development of innovative potential, which determines the direction for analyzing the increase in the efficiency of innovative activity in the region through the prism of the defense industry. Methods. The article analyzed the situation with regard to regional initiatives to develop the innovative potential of defense enterprises, the indicators that affect the region’s innovative potential and the factors that determine them. Results. The most effective in this context are cluster initiatives that unite science, production and the state, give the greatest impetus to the innovative potential of the region. As a result of the analysis, it was concluded that there is a need to organize clusters under the auspices of defense industry enterprises. Discussion. Further development of such initiatives can be associated with the transfer of leading roles to defense enterprises, which will create a competitive environment and will provide an opportunity for further development. In connection with the vector of diversification of the activities of defense enterprises, there will be the greatest synergetic effect from such an interaction.
